A Brief History of the Department:

• Started with B.A. (Honors) in Economics in 1978 and received concurrence from the Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh, in 1979.
• The Department was started with eight students, namely Krishna Gogoi (now Associate Professor, Tinkhong College), KhagenKonwar (currently working as Local Auditor, Govt. of Assam), SarbanandaBoarh (now working as a teacher in an M.E. School, Govt. of Assam), RanjuDutta (now a teacher in Moran Girls’ High School), PreetirekhaDutta, PremaKonwar, MahendraKhound (Teacher), SukhedharGogoi (currently working as a teacher in an M.E. School, Govt. of Assam).
• K. Saikia, MadhabMahanta and Lalit Chandra Tamuly were the Lecturers during the inception.
• Except for the regular teachers, Dina Gogoi, SantanuChamuah, ChandiniSonowal, HemantaBori, JeemoniGogoi,JyotismitaGoswami and NilipoppyGogoi had also served the Department in different years on a contractual basis.
