The central library is the core hub of the knowledge landscape of H.C.D.G. College. The central library of H.C.D.G. College has a diverse collection of books, journals, magazines, educational CDs maps charts and E-resources.

The library membership is compulsory for all the students and teachers of H.C.D.G. College and it provides open access facilities to all. The library has been maintaining footfall records (online attendance system) which have been integrated with SOUL management software.

The library is a Partially automated library system using SOUL 2.0 integrated library management software since 2014. The central library provides OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) facility for the user community. They can able to search the database by author, title classification number, and subject to know the availability of the books by using OPAC. The bookshelves are arranged departmental wise and books are arranged subject-wise. The books were classified using the Dewy Decimal Classification Scheme (DDC) 21st edition. The central library has various sections like periodical, reference, circulation, E-resource, reprography section etc. The college library had a reading room with a 50eating capacity for the library users. The library is open from 10 AM to 4 PM on all working days.

The library has a membership of the National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content (N-LIST), INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The N-LIST provides 6000+ e-journals and199500+ e-books for member institutions.

The central library has established an Institutional Repository in the year 2019. An Institutional Repository is an archive for acquiring, preserving and disseminating digital copies of the intellectual output of an institution.

The library orientation program is carried out for new students in which details about the libraries are cleared. The library has been subscribing to 8no’s of newspapers in English and Assamese. The library is managed by the librarian and well-trained library staff.

Objective: The objective of the library is to support the college and its academic programmes by facilitating access to information resources and it’s committed to preparing its users to be lifelong learners in an information-rich society.

The period of loan may be decreased based on the type of collection, the number of books available in the library etc.

LIBRARY RULES

  1. To become a member an applicant must fill out the registration form and submit it through the proper channel to the Librarian
  2. The Library is primarily for the use of students, Faculty and Non-teaching employees of the college.
  3. On entering the library every member is required to write legibly his/her name and class/ Roll No in the visitor’s register kept for the purpose at the entrance of the Library. Such a signature will be taken as an acknowledgement that the person agrees to abide by the Library rules.
  4. Readers are not allowed to take their personal belongings such as handbags umbrellas,files, personal books etc. Inside the Library. These must be deposited at the entrance.
  5. The privilege of borrowing books from the Library is restricted to registered library members only.
  6. The books are issued to the students for fifteen (15) days, If not in demand may be renewed at the direction of the Librarian. A fine of Rs. 1.00 per day will be charged for a book kept beyond the due date.
  7. 2 Books for the major students and 1 book for the Non-major & H. S. students will be issued against the production of library borrowers Cards issued by the library.
  8. Books treated as Reference by the Library, Rare books, Journals/Magazines (Bound or non-bound), Bulletins etc. are not issued.
  9. Books issued to members are non-transferable without prior sanction of the Librarian.
  10. Books on loan should be handled with all care to enable their continued use to the maximum extent possible.
  11. Library members are responsible for the safe custody of the Library Borrowers Card issued to them. Any misuse of the Borrowers Card may lead to the cancellation of privilege enjoyed by the member.
  12. Readers are required to maintain the order of the books on the shelves.
  13. A student is not entitled to get his/her Admit Card to any Examination unless he/she obtains a clearance Certificate from the Librarian.
  14. Library members must not create any disturbance or engage in any behaviour which interferes with library activities.
  15. Loss of Library Borrowers Card should be reported to the Librarian immediately. The duplicate card may be obtained on payment of Rs. 20/-
  16. In case of loss of a book by the borrower, he/she shall either replace the book or bear its cost.
  17. Library members must not mutilate Library materials by marking,underlining, removing pages, binding or any other way to damage or deface Library materials.
  18. Any damage or missing pages detected in a book must be reported to the staff before borrowing the same failing which the borrower shall be held responsible for damage or mutilation.
  19. The library membership of any member found tearing pages or caught while attempting to steal books will be suspended forthwith from using the Library facilities and further disciplinary action will be initiated by the college
  20. Conversations and making noise inside the Library are strictly prohibited.
  21. Silence shall be strictly observed in the Library.
  22. No reader shall be allowed to sleep in the Library, especially in the reading room.

AUTOMATION:

The Library is fully automated with the Integrated Library Management System (ILMS) SOUL2.0. There are five Computers devoted to the same, i.e. 1 server, 4 clients and 1 Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC). Circulation is being done with Barcode Technology.

DIGITAL LIBRARY: The library has also developed its Digital library cum Institutional Repository with Open Source Software “DSpace”. The Resources of the digital library cum IR can be accessed in the library through 3 client computers installed in the e-resource section of the library dedicated to the purpose of benefiting the students as well as faculty members of the college. In addition, the users can access the resources of Digital Library cum IR from their own system, i.e. Desktop/Laptop and Mobile phone through College LAN and Library’s Wi-Fi networking system.

The N-LIST programme provides access to more than 6000+ e-journals (with back files for 10 years) and 199,500+ e-books. The Central Library, HCDG College is subscribed N-LIST programme.
